Hey folks,

I'm writing to you after feeling back in the swing of things after two successful trips - one to Folk Alliance International in Montreal and the other on JoCo Cruise, where I got to be on Team Mollylele for the week.

Last month, I also taught a Folk Ballad Songwriting class which was so much fun (and I think I'm going to offer a mini version for subscribers here). My students had incredible contributions, and we may have even gotten some folks together to continue playing music with each other. Stay tuned for the Night School Family Band if it happens ;)

After months of not being able to do much, it feels good to be booking stuff and playing again. I try and write along with my class's assignments, so I've done a little bit, but I am working on getting back into a routine so that I can write more regularly and hopefully get some new stuff recorded this year.

Here are the two big things I wanted to tell you about:

  1. I have a show coming up! Drummer Davis and I will be playing at The Pinhook in Durham on April 10th, along with John Rodney and Brian K and the Parkway . It's going to be a fun time! You can get advance tickets here. (Yes, there will be tickets available at the door, but advance tickets are super important for artists right now. They help venues know that betting on us is a good move and increase our chances of getting booked again. If you think you'll come, please grab a ticket! They're also cheaper in advance.)
  1. Séance Listening Room begins its 2025 season THIS Sunday, March 23rd! Our season opener is the inimitable Flamy Grant, a "hip-swaying, shame-slaying drag queen" based in Asheville, NC. I first saw Flamy play at Folk Alliance last year and it was an incredible experience. She is a fierce advocate for self-love and self expression, especially for LGBTQ folks dealing with or recovering from religious trauma. If you only come to one of our shows this year, this is a great one to choose. Sliding scale tickets available here.

That's all for today. I look forward to being able to tell you about more shows soon...and if you'd like to book a house concert this year, send me an email! I am working on some summer dates and would love to come see you.

Xo,

J.
