Sweet Community at The Velvet Feast

Lately one of my priorities has been community. Not "community" as a vague notion of togetherness or solidarity, but specifically gathering.

It's no secret that I've distanced myself from social media in recent years, and while that's been very good for my mental health, it's definitely made it harder to get together in person with others. So many people still primarily use Facebook for event invitations and I don't blame them for not being included or when I don't hear about stuff because I opted out six years ago. But, combined with the general reliance on remote working/livestreaming/Instagramming of it all, I have become so hungry for genuine human contact.

I know I'm not the only one feeling that hunger, so I was delighted when musical powerhouse and human lovebeam Jess Klein decided to fill that hunger with the most logical and delightful thing - a musical potluck!

The Velvet Feast is a monthly songwriters-in-the-round evening in Hillsborough, NC, but it's also a community potluck where attendees are invited to bring something to share with everyone. We'll eat together and share in the power of music and leave knowing that we can gather together for good. What could be better?

It's my absolute pleasure to be joining Jess and Couldn't Be Happiers for a February 14th potluck show. And yes, we know it's Valentine's Day, but you don't have to bring a date. We're going to be swapping love songs and breakup songs and everything in between. In fact, I invite you to bring a date who isn't a romantic partner - your neighbor, your best friend, the buddy who is always checking on your cat when you go out of town. We all need love and community right now.
