This is a Valentine
To the ones who are loving us now:
A card unfolding to reveal my adoration for every journalist still clinging to that fourth estate, who keep us steady in words.
A bouquet for those who cultivate, harvest, and carry the loads that feed us regardless of our origin, or theirs.
A caravan of cupids for the scientists and explorers, amazed at how the world is always changing and always discoverable to the curious.
A jar full of conversation hearts, one for every history teacher. CRAZY 4 U.
A bright red paper heart to the ones who are unabashedly themselves, painting unassailable color over a canvas we’re told is white, white, white.
A love song for the protesters and noise-makers - we’ll call it “Good Trouble” because you taught us, Mr. Lewis.
A scroll of ancient poetry rolled out for those who hold the line, who hold each other, who hold it together.
Romance is sweet, but these loves are fundamental.
Xo,
J.
