April/May Shows & NaPoWriMo
It is, shockingly, April.
I continue to be shocked by the passage of time. Maybe moreso the older I get. I haven’t felt a season move this swiftly away from me since I was a child and Summer Vacation seemed to last only an instant. School, again?! April, already?!
As we move toward a solar eclipse next week, I’m fondly remembering being in the path of totality last October with the Welcome to Night Vale crew. We pulled the van over at a Buc-ee’s in Waco, Texas, and watched from the parking lot with our silly paper glasses and sacks full of ridiculous snacks.
I’ll be at home for this one, getting ready for some Spring travel.
April Shows
This Saturday, April 6th I’m coming to The Camel in Richmond, VA for a matinee show with my friends Mollylele and Emily Henry. Yes, I said MATINEE. All of our middle-aged dreams are coming true, my friends. You can come to a 3pm show and be home in time to have dinner in your pajamas by 6. What a world!
Wednesday, April 10th I am doing a livestream show at 8pm Eastern. Paid subscribers to this newsletter get in to this and future shows for free! Not a paid subscriber yet? You can fix that by clicking on this lil’ bud right here:
Or, if you prefer, you can buy a ticket to just this livestream at the link right here.
A replay will be available for 48 hours for folks who can’t attend live (or just want to rewatch it.)
May Shows
Then, in May, I’m making a little jaunt back out West.
May 9th & 10th I’ll be performing at ScoopFest in Las Vegas, NV.
On May 11th I’ll be in West Hollywood, CA for a really fun night Manager Morgan is putting together:

It’s gonna be cute and all your L.A. friends told me to tell you they’ll go if you go. Tickets here.
(May 12th I am working on something in the Bay Area so I’ll update you if that gets confirmed!)
National Poetry (Writing) Month
One of the best parts of it being April is that it’s officially National Poetry Month! I am loosely participating in NaPoWriMo, during which I’ll be working on a poem every day in April. Paid subscribers will get to see a lot of what I’m working on throughout the month as I make time to write and read poems each morning.
I’ll leave you with today’s work, inspired by last weekend’s drive to a house concert just outside the Allegheny National Forest.
Pomerium
Nothing for miles, then suddenly a town square
like a postcard from an earlier century.
One can imagine the bustle, the joyful congestion
of tourists making their way to natural hot springs for healing or revival.
Peripherally there slips the ghost of a heyday.
On the outskirts, a cemetery rises into view.
It covers three hills, more expansive than the Main Street blocks.
Here, the dead have their own city,
larger than the place from which its immigrants hailed.
Beyond the border there are more dwelling silent than those walking from shop to shop.
The bones of a once-great hotel nestle against a ridge, advertising vacancy.
That’s all for this week. Thanks, as always, for reading and for being here.
Xo,
Juliana
