Dog days of summer, July shows & classes

I got a dog and this post is mostly pictures of him.

Oh hey.

I’ve had a weird few weeks that have been stressful (some “good” stress, some rough) and decided what better way to not calm down than to adopt a dog?

this is Pico!

Please welcome Pico/Piccolo/Pickle/Pico the Guy-Oh to the family.

Just a couple of days after adopting him, I sprained my ankle pretty badly, but he’s been a good (if hyperactive) nurse.

I’ve never met anyone as dedicated to de-fuzzing tennis balls as this pup. We have learned to hide anything reminiscent of a toy ball (including mandarin oranges) because the guy is obsessed.

no fuzz is safe.

The shelter thinks he’s either a border collie or aussie mixed with pibble or something like that. He definitely enjoys puzzles and playtime and has a lot of energy for learning new stuff. I’m thinking of signing him up for agility training, which means my primary hobby is about to be playing with my dog.

In non-puppy news,

I’m teaching an in-person songwriting class at Night School Bar starting this Saturday! There’s still a little time to sign up and all NSB classes are sliding scale, so please don’t let cost stop you from joining us if you’re interested! It’s three Saturday afternoons from 2-5pm, followed by an optional showcase in August to show off your work.

July Shows

I’ve also got a couple of shows coming up this month!

July 17th is my next livestream show! Paid subscribers to this newsletter get in free, but anyone is welcome to grab a ticket here.

(If you become a paid subscriber any time before the show day, you’ll get a ticket to the show, too.)

July 26th, I’ll be at Slim’s in Raleigh opening up for my friends The Big Lonesome, who have a fresh new album out! Info here: https://slimsraleigh.com/calendar/big-lonesome/

Also, on July 21st, I’m thrilled to welcome my friend Jess Klein to the Séance Listening Room family!

SLR tickets are sliding scale, with more than 90% of proceeds going directly to the artist. Jess Klein is an absolute treasure and if you’ve never had a chance to hear her live, this will be a fantastic chance to experience her songwriting and performing skill in an intimate environment. Tickets here.

Ok, I’m gonna get back to elevating my leg now. I’m happily accepting movie recommendations for my time confined to the couch - what have you loved watching recently?

Hope you’re well and that there’s a little rain coming to cool you off,

Juliana

P.S. here’s another Pico shot, because obviously I can’t help myself.

Here’s the part where I tell you that write. play. repeat. is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. I’m so happy you’re here!
