I'm playing my own music series for the first time.

with Hooly J Chan at Séance Listening Room this Sunday

Hi friends,

This Sunday Séance Listening Room will be welcoming our 12th artist since we started... and I guess a bonus 13th, since I'll be playing a full set of my own for the first time.

You'd think I'd have just booked myself for a bunch of these by now, but the truth is, I really love getting to sit in the audience and watch other folks play - often a rarity in this industry because we all work on the same nights! One of the artists I had originally been in touch with for the July show had to reschedule (they're going to play another date) which meant there was an opening. Since I'd had a couple of shows fall through recently, I decided to fill the spot myself.

SO, this Sunday, July 27th at 6pm I'll be opening for Hooly J Chan, a songwriter, storyteller, puppeteer, teacher and farmer from the south coast of Massachusetts. They are an organizer of The Wicked Queer Puppet Theater, a small community theater making art to inspire social and environmental action. Hooly released their 3rd full length album “A Worms Wings” in summer 2024 with a big colorful puppet show and full live band. They create music and stories to heal, question and re-imagine ourselves and our world.

There's a heat wave in Durham this weekend so I'm especially grateful that Past Me decided to reserve indoor, air-conditioned space for the July & August shows. I want our audience and artists to be comfortable and an outdoor garden, even a beautiful, shaded one, ain't it in Durham in July.

We're hosting this one at perfect lovers, an adorable art space and coffee pop-up in North Durham. They host lots of performances and art events there and love to support the community through offering affordable access to the space for events like ours.

If you're local, or feel like a road trip, I'd love to see you this Sunday. SLR tickets are always sliding scale, with the majority of profits going directly to visiting artists. Come enjoy some respite from the heat and hang with us.

Love,

Juliana
